Book of Prophets Isaiah Chapter 13

ISAIAH

CHAPTER

13

1. The oracle concerning Babylon that Isaiah son of Amoz saw. 2. On a bare hill raise a signal, cry aloud to them; wave the hand for them to enter the gates of the nobles.

(Book of Prophets Chapter 13 verses 1 to 2)

Oh God, my Father we are to be at constant war against our sinful selves, for there are many areas of our lives that we have not yet conquered. My brain makes it hard for me to go against myself, for by means of rationalisation I end up doing what I feel and wish more than what You want me to do. I consider this area as the noble area of my body, for it is the central area of control and the area oh God which needs most work. Oh God, I pray that You be my surgeon or psychiatrist and help me in the healing of my wishes and desires Amen.

3. I myself have commanded my consecrated ones, have summoned my warriors, my proudly exulting ones, to execute my anger.

(Book of Prophets Chapter 13 verse 3)

In order for Your universal plan for Your second visit can unfold, You can make use of different participants as pawns or kings and queens on Your chessboard, that if necessary can even lead to a nuclear war if this is according to Your agenda. Even so throughout the course of our lives, You are able to summon unlimited resources to help us during our times of needs or tribulations Amen As believers in You, my God, Roman Catholics, Protestants or from whatever church we are, we are called to wage a personal war against the forces of evil starting from our sinful self, and ranging to any person who is overcome by sin .

For instance, when we are in a state of anger at some person or relative or even at ourselves, the negative forces of evil that are at war within us are also at war with the presence of the Holy Spirit,  who also dwells within us. Therefore, in truth, it is not the other person whom we physically see, who is our enemy, but the presence of these evil forces that can take control of our thoughts feelings and behaviour in order to make us become angry at others and even with ourselves.

4. Listen, a tumult on the mountains as of a great multitude! Listen, an uproar of kingdoms of nations gathering together!

(Book of Prophets Isaiah Chapter 13 verse 4)

Oh God, You are making us more aware of the need of changing our ways. It is as if You are telling us. Turn back from your sinful ways, for my day is coming nearer, security at Your place of work is becoming tighter do not pilfer the till anymore for you will soon be caught, stop that relationship, your wife loves you and you will break her heart and even that of your children if she had to know what is going on! Now is the time to turn back and start fresh for your enemies are working together against you! Amen.

5. They come from a distant land, from the end of the heavens, the LORD and the weapons of his indignation, to destroy the whole earth.

(Book of Prophets Isaiah Chapter 13 verse 5)

Oh God my Father although we take You for granted, this is not right, for You are mighty and powerful and worthy to be feared, for in You and by means of You do we find our existence. You have the power to create and You have the power to destroy. Amen. You have power over the forces of nature, so much that they are subject to You my God and Father. Amen.

6. Wail, for the day of the LORD is near; it will come like destruction from the Almighty!

(Book of Prophets Isaiah Chapter 13 verse 6)

Oh God if we do not place our trust in You indeed there will be much wailing, for if we are caught in sin it will be a day or hour of disaster and not of grace. Therefore, as you told us many times we are always to be prepared Amen.

7. Therefore all hands will be feeble, and every human heart wil melt, 8. and they will be dismayed. Pangs and agony will seize them; they will be in anguish like a woman in labor. They will look aghast at one another; their faces will be aflame.

(Book of Prophets Isaiah Chapter 13 verse 7)

Your coming dear Father will bring with it many surprises. Many who had considered themselves as being righteous and worthy beyond reasonable doubt to enter the gates of heaven, will indeed wail like a woman in labour on being admitted to the gates of hell for having had such a judgmental attitude towards others and even the contrary, many who consider themselves as having had led a criminal and sinful life will feel surprised to be admitted to the gates of heaven, for great is Your love and Your mercy Amen.

9. See, the day of the LORD comes, cruel, with wrath and fierce anger, to make the earth a desolation, and to destroy its sinners from it.

(Book of Prophets Isaiah Chapter 13 verse 9)

Oh God my Father for those who are leading a life that is not according to Your will judgement day will indeed be a day of terror, however, You are aware that as humans we are prone to sin and that without Your grace and mercy we can never bee totally clean, spotless or sinless. I, therefore, pray that on this important day, although You cannot turn a blind eye on our sins and their consequences, I pray that You continue to be just, loving and merciful as You have always been. Amen.

10. For the stars of the heavens and their constellations will not give their light; the sun will be dark at its rising, and the moon will not shed its light.

(Book of Prophets Isaiah Chapter 13 verse 10)

Oh God my Father, light and darkness cannot exist together, for one overshadows the other. In the same way, we are a mixture of good and bad, our light cannot shine when we are in a state of sin, therefore, oh God my Father we need to repent from, our sins, so that the light of Your presence, may be able to radiate through us again Amen.

11. I will punish the world for its evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; I will put an end to the pride of arrogant, and lay low the insolence of tyrants. 12. I will make mortals more rare than fine gold, and humans than the gold of Ophir.

(Book of Prophets Isaiah Chapter 13 verses 11 to 12)

During moments of anger oh God my Father we say many things and I can testify to that, however, Your love is stronger than Your anger and I am sure that You will never totally destroy humanity, what convinces me more is the fact that You Yourself promised not to destroy humans again after the episode of the great flood and You always keep Your promises. Amen.

13. Therefore I will make the heavens tremble, and the earth will be shaken out of its place, at the wrath of the LORD of hosts in the day of his fierce anger.

(Book of Prophets Isaiah Chapter 13 verse 13)

Oh God my Father You have the power to move the heavens and even the earth. All that takes place is under Your control, there is none who can match You in love, mercy, and even power. There is none like You.  All who follow You will find You as a reliable source of love care and support, however, all who try to go against You will find You as a strong and mighty fortress. Amen.

14. Like a hunted gazelle, or like sheep with no one to gather them, all will turn to their own people and all will flee to their own lands.

(Book of Prophets Isaiah Chapter 13 verse 14)

Oh God my Father those who think can stand against You will tremble in Your presence and go back home for nobody can stand against You, my God and Father Amen.

15. Whoever is found will be thrust through, and whoever is caught will fall by the sword. 16. Their infants will be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses will be plundered and their wives ravished.

(Book of Prophets Isaiah Chapter 13 verses 15 to 16)

At times my God and Father, You strip us of our securities and strength or allow others to do so in order for us to learn to depend totally on You Amen.

17. See, I am stirring up the Medes against them who have no regard for silver and do not delight in gold. 18. Their bows will slaughter the young men; they will have no mercy on the fruit of the womb; their eyes will not pity children. 19. And Babylon, the glory of Kingdoms, the splendor and pride of the Chaldeans will be like Sodom and Gomorrah when God overthrew them. 20. It will never be inhabited or lived in for all generations; Arabs will not pitch their tents there, shepherds will not make their flocks lie down there.

(Book of Prophets Isaiah Chapter 13 verses 17 to 20)

Oh God, as much as You can save us, at times You can also permit our rivals to get an advantage over us for our own good. At times, we may be under the impression that our successes however in truth the victory is always Yours Amen.

21. But wild animals will lie down there, and its houses will be full of howling creatures; there ostriches will live, and there goat-demons will dance. 22. Hyenas will cry in its towers, and jackals in the pleasant palaces; its time is close at hand, and its days will not be prolonged.

(Book of Prophets Isaiah Chapter 13 verses 21 to 22)

Oh God my Father I would like to end this chapter with the following prayer:

Oh God my Father, You are the God of glory, love might and power and nobody can stand against You. You are able to reverse any negative consequences that are planned against us, even natural causes such as illness. However if we decide not to live according to Your ways we are permitting the evil one to impose his evil schemes and we will then experience the negative consequences of our actions. Amen.
